This is a very important event and should not be missed! On this night, your child’s teacher will explain their goals for the class and for your child. They will share information about their curriculum, instructional program, and how to communicate with them. This is the first opportunity to see and bond with your child’s teacher.
Classroom teachers will send you a Zoom invite for their classroom presentations soon.
Greetings from your new PTA Transportation Safety Reps, Tom Whitnah and Juan Caviglia! We hope everyone’s been appreciating the full return to in-person school and feeling safe. We wanted to once again encourage everyone who is able to walk, bike or scooter to school, to do so, to help keep drop-offs and pick-ups safer and less crowded. For parents who need to drive kids, we wanted to provide the following important notes about driving safely during these crowded periods.
Please avoid driving on Dana Avenue and Heather Lane during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up at Duveneck. Both streets are narrow and require cars to make turns through crowded crosswalks.
Please use caution on Channing when opening your car doors into the bike lane. Bikes will be very unlikely to anticipate a sudden open door.
No U-turns on Channing — it is illegal during certain parts of the day. Driving the extra few blocks is safer for everyone.
And for bikers:
Please wear your helmets while biking — helmets are required for cyclists under 18.
Please use caution on Alester, Channing and Hamilton — use the crosswalks.

Don’t forget that the Labor Day long weekend is coming up! All elementary schools will have an early release on Friday, September 3rd: Kindergarten will still end school at 11:45 am and TK will end at 11:15 am; grades 1-5 will end school at 1:05 pm. And there will be no school on Monday, September 6th in honor of the Labor Day national holiday.
Everyone is invited! We are really excited about our first PTA Association meeting of the year, which is happening this Monday, August 23 at 7 pm on Zoom (zoom link, calendar link). At this meeting, we will elect some new Board members, set our budget, discuss volunteer opportunities, hear an update from our faculty and principal, and more! Please find our agenda below or view and download it here. Come and join us, all are welcome! (Meeting ID: 864 2828 9039; Passcode: 204004)
Duveneck is happy to once again host after-school classes this year! These classes are offered by third-party providers on campus. Students can walk directly to them by themselves after school, and parents may enter campus through the main office entrance to pick their children up after the class. See the full list and schedule, which includes links to vendor websites to sign up, by clicking here!
We are parents and teachers who support Duveneck Elementary School in Palo Alto, CA.
